Kalon - the beauty of meaningful
"To be kalon is more than being beautiful; it is having a beauty that both is and inspires excellence". Following the ancient Greek philosophy the husband-wife design team of L.A./Berlin based Kalon Studios, Johannes Pauwen and Michaele Simmering engaged in the mission of designing unique, innovative furniture with a great sense of usefulness and consideration for details.
The studio’s furniture collections, Kalon Studios Signature and IoLine, children's room furnishings inspired by the couple’s daughter Io, are a perfect example of the eco-friendly and stylish mix. All products are made from sustainable wood finished with non-toxic wood oil, hand-crafted and custom-designed. The Kalon minimalist design is practical yet sophisticated with beautiful details like fern engraving or playful cut-outs and the joining of square with fluid round lines.
The ‘stars of the show” are much acclaimed 3Blocks, featured in home décor magazines and eco-design books, and the Hut-Hut - a chic minimalist reinterpretation of the rocking horse selected by Pitti Immagine Uomo as one of the top 20 products at the 2010 Salone del Mobile. Next to these signature Kalon pieces the IoLine collection is as remarkable thanks to the furniture’s utility, novelty but also heirloom qualities. Looking at the IoLine toddler’s room it feels great in a young family’s modern house but can be also treasured and used for many generations.
